Microsoft has a new video messaging app for your phone called Skype Qik. This differs from Skype, which is intended for having extended video and voice calls. Skype Qik is made for sending quick video messages to others users of the app.

There’s a simplified system for sharing that allow you to immediately add videos to your chat with a single tap. No login, username or password is needed once you have the app set up.

Microsoft promises that it’s super-simple to create groups using your phone’s address  book.

You can delete a video from a chat at any time and the videos are only saved in the chat for two weeks before being deleted. As Microsoft points out in the fine print, that won’t stop someone from grabbing your video before you delete it. So use your noggin before sharing anything private with other people.

It’s a little bit of a data hog, so it’s suggested that you only use this app with a WiFi connection. As with other messaging apps, both you and the person you wand to send the message to need to have the app installed on your phone.

The good news is that Skype Qik is available for Android, iPhone and Windows Phone in their respective app stores. Just like Skype, it is free to download.
