Good news for Ubuntu users who subscribe to Netflix. If you have the latest version of Chrome, (version 37) you will now be able to watch Netflix videos.

You will have to have an up-to-date installation of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, 14.04 LTS or later. Some Ubuntu users were able to come up with workarounds for viewing Netflix and others were able to view it after installing a Windows Emulator, but this way is much more direct.

The hold-up with Netflix viewing was due to HTML5 – the format Netflix uses to stream movies. Ubuntu wasn’t able to process the security extensions on the files, but after making some changes in the latest version, they are good to go.

Around 1% of home computers use Linux-based systems and Ubuntu is one of the more popular flavors of Linux for home users.
